Occasionally, there will be a circumstance when something comes up and both parents agree to having one take sole custody (such as a military parent being called into active duty, or a major health problem for one of the parents or the child), but both parents MUST be agreeable. And it helps if the child(ren) are ok with things too.
Keep in mind, the courts must do what is in the BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILD. Not the best interest of the parents, not in the best interest of the school/babysitter/hockey team/Little Leage coach/anyone else. It's what's best for the child.
