Can a 16 yr old and 14 yr old change custody without going to court?

My two sons went to live with their dad in Texas 4 years ago and they want to come back home to Utah. We don't have money to pay for a lawyer. Is there a way they can just send a letter to the judge or come home without reprimand. Their dad is threatening to throw them in jail if they leave. How can they change homes? Can a 16 yr old and 14 yr old change custody without going to court?Have them go to the police and tell them that thier father is threatening them and they want to go to live with you, automaticly they shouls be sent to you. If not go to the police yourself. Can a 16 yr old and 14 yr old change custody without going to court?I don't really know your situation. Why was their father given custody in the first place? I think you need a lawyer and a court decision since they are minors. Call your local Family Services Agency for help. Can a 16 yr old and 14 yr old change custody without going to court?Your ex can't send his sons to jail if they leave. It just won't happen. And a judge will listen to a child of their age about what they want and why they want it, as long as everything is legitimate.

As for not having money for a lawyer, is there not legal aid where you are? Because if there is and you're entitled (you need to find out first), here's what you can do:

Bring your sons to your home for a visit, and don't send them back. Having made an appointment, petition the court for custody of your sons on your turf.

Good luck...
